Favorite Movies

This section is dedicated to my favorite movies! I will admit that it is a pretty weird mix of genres, but a lot of them are well loved. This list is in no real particular order:

Hackers (1995)

A very fun and campy movie about hackers with an antagonist who is more funny than anything else. The soundtrack is also amazing. It comes from a time people seemed to be much more optimistic about the future of technology and the internet. IMDb

Shrek (2001)

What is there to say really. My personal belief is that Shrek was a vital part of a whole generations youth. I am yet to find a single person my age who doesn't hold Shrek in high regard. The plot and characters are fantastic and it is a joy to watch whenever I get the chance. IMDb

The Core (2003)

The core is arguably a really stupid movie. Saying this however, it is a film I have watched a lot after discovering it because it's sheer absurdity is too amusing. It is a disaster movie based on the Earth's core's rotation slowing down, which in turn causes problems above ground. A team is put together to save the day and some funny things happen. It really is a movie from it's era but it is among my favorites. IMDb

The Incredibles (2004)

This one also needs no introduction. Like Shrek, it is a movie I watched to death growing up. I knew every scene by heart and could tell you what scene was happening from another room based entirely off the soundtrack alone. The plot and the characters are great and I truly think it is a timeless movie from the best era of Pixar. The ending hyped up the Underminer to which I then played the the heck out of the DS game - sadly instead of this we were given a rather lackluster and forgetable sequel way too late. IMDb

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001 - 2003)

Not really much I can say about these that hasn't been said a hundred times. It is a phenomenal trilogy that always makes for a great marathon if you have a spare 9 hours to fill. IMDb: [1],[2],[3]

Surf's up (2007)

It's a wonderful film which I didn't appreciate as much as I do now as a kid. It's a film that explores themes of self discovery, perseverance and friendship - presented in a documentary style with compelling and fun characters. If you have never seen it I encourage you to do so at least once. Some fun triva about me is that I have been told a few times by various people that I remind people of Chicken Joe from this movie - which I take as a complement because he's so chill. IMDb

Gladiator (2000)

Gladiator is quite possibly one of the best movies ever made - featuring great performances from Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. Just watch it if you haven't already. IMDb

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

I would argue that this is the peak of the Terminator franchise. I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said. Watch it at least once as it is (at least in my opinion) one of the best Sci-Fi movies of all time. IMDb

Trainspotting (1996)

This movie may seem out of place here when compared to the other ones, but it has been on my mind a lot ever since I saw it the first time. It's a very gritty and grounded representation of the life of smackheads in Scotland with strong and memerable characters and full some great moments and fantastic cinematography particularly this scene. The sequel is also really good.IMDb

Moneyball (2011)

Moneyball is what got me into baseball. It is about the Oakland Atheletics 2002 season and their use of sabermetrics to make a great team with a limited budget. It's a great watch and I keep coming back to it every few months. IMDb

American Psycho (2000)

A cult classic which I found pretty comedic. Bale's performance is great and I like how they left the ending quite ambiguous. A must watch!! IMDb

Life of Brian (1979)

Just watch it - it is an iconic piece of British cinema. IMDb

The Martian (2015)

A very grounded movie based on a book of the same name. It follows an Astronaut who get's stranded on Mars and his problem solving skills to survive as long as possible and regain communication to Earth so that he can get brought home. It's a good watch - the book is also really good. IMDb

October Sky (1999)

Based on Homer Hickam's life - it features a young Jake Gyllenhaal who does a really good performance. I really enjoyed this movie when I watched it and I found it pretty inspirational. IMDb

Hot Fuzz (2007)

My favorite part of Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy - it is just a joy to watch. The jokes land and the cinematography is a joy to witness. I personally think that this is Edgar Wright's best work and it has many scenes that live rent free in my head. Funnily enough it is referred to as the Classico - which just so happens to be my favorite Cornetto flavor as well. IMDb

(500) Days of Summer (2009)

500 Days of Summer is not a love story - but it is definately about being in love. I feel like a lot of people (particularly my fellow man) miss the point of this movie. I have been both Summer and Tom at some point in my life so I feel that this played a big role in my appreciation for the movie - but I feel like it is something everyone should give a go at some point. IMDb

The Big Short (2015)

The story behind the 2007–2008 financial crisis. Worth the watch at least once. IMDb

Good Will Hunting (1997)

I just really like this film a lot. I see myself in Will to some degree - I found this movie at the right time for me and it became and instant favorite for me. IMDb

Airplane! (1980)

For me this is a must watch comedy. Even now it holds up phenomenally well. Watch it at some point. IMDb
